The COM and COM+ Programming Primer $4.21 COM and COM+ are the foundation of virtually every new technology Microsoft is developing, and COM+ is an essential feature of Microsoft's Win 32 platform (and, therefore, a cornerstone of Windows 2000). COM and COM+ have a reputation for being extremely difficult to learn -- but it doesn't have to be that way. The COM and COM+ Programming Prime teaches both technologies from scratch -- step-by-step, using on-target analogies, simple example programs, and an "inside-out" teaching method that makes sure readers really understand before introducing shortcuts such as Microsoft's wizards. Alan Gordon starts with crystal-clear definitions of every Microsoft technology related to COM, including ActiveX, OLE, DCOM, DNA, and COM+. Understand the fundamental classes, objects, and interfaces associated with COM. Next, build your first COM object, and simplify it using ATL 3.0 and Visual C++ Native COM support. In Section II, dig deeper into COM: create an out-of-process server; understand Automation; work with COM callbacks and connectable objects; master threading; and review the additional distributed development features Microsoft introduced with DCOM. Next, understand the key distributed technologies that set the stage for COM+: Windows DNA, the Microsoft Transaction Server, and MSMQ. Finally, in four practical, hands-on chapters, you'll start working with COM+ in the Windows 2000 environment: creating objects, working with threading, even building full-fledged n-tier applications. |

Essential Com $44.17 The Component Object Model (COM) is Microsoft's basic framework for developing and deploying object-oriented software that allows disparate applications and components to work together across a variety of languages, platforms and host machines. Virtually all modern Microsoft technologies, including ActiveX, OLE, Microsoft Transaction Server, and SQL Server are built using COM. This book shows developers how this architecture operates and how to use COM to create efficient and stable programs. All the code developed for this book has been tested and proven in Don Box's popular training courses. This is the only book available that gives developers an in-depth understanding of the "whys" of COM, enabling readers to design software that is consistent with the COM philosophy. Written by the premier authority on the COM architecture, COM -- The Component Object Model offers essential information for serious component developers. -- Distinctive approach -- will teach readers not only how to use COM, but how to think in COM -- COM can greatly improve the efficiency of applications, but COM fluency is a difficult task. This book is the best resource available for developers who need to make the transition from superficial understanding to deep knowledge |

Com Interop $113.11 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles COM Interop is a technology included in the .NET CLR that enables COM objects to interact with .NET objects, and vice versa. COM Interop aims to provide access to the existing COM components without requiring that the original component be modified. It tries to make the .NET types equivalent to the COM types. In addition, COM Interop allows COM developers to access managed objects as easily as they access other COM objects. The .NET Framework creates a type library and special registry entries when a component is registered. It provides a specialized utility (RegAsm.exe) that exports the managed types into a type library and registers the managed component as a traditional COM component. When the type is instantiated through COM, the .NET CLR is the actual COM object that executes and it merely marshals any method calls or property access to the type implementation. .NET and COM $51.99 This is the eBook version of the printed book. If the print book includes a CD-ROM, this content is not included within the eBook version. The focus of the book is on COM Interoperability (since it's a much larger subject), and the heart of the discussion is broken down into four parts: Using COM Components Within the .NET Framework Using .NET Framework Components from COM Designing Good .NET Framework Components for COM Clients Designing Good COM Components for .NET Framework Clients The scope of the book is just about everything related to using "unmanaged code" in the .NET Framework. Technologies built on top of COM Interoperability are also covered-Interoperability of Windows Forms Controls and ActiveX controls, Interoperability with COM+, and Interoperability with Distributed COM (DCOM). Although Platform Invocation Services is a separate technology from COM Interoperability, there are many areas of overlap, so including in the book is a natural fit. All of these technologies are a core part of the Common Language Runtime and .NET Framework, and will likely be used not only as the path of migration for existing software projects, but for brand new software development for the next several years. |
