Backing up your files and digital photographs

Store your files permanently on hard drives

Since your image files are already on a hard drive, you can just leave them there! Obviously, the files are large professional cameras today, so you need add more disk space for your new growth and keep enough space for "hungry" applications like Photoshop. Fortunately, the size add disks has increased and most are now based on a reasonable cost of 1TB external drives. Although you will see 2 TB units, most experts feel that only units of 1 TB showed sufficient reliability for day to day studio use. There are many options and decisions on how to power and connect these drives. You can directly connect to a computer or put them on your network studio (SIN)? As usual, if they are Greek to you, help you source your equipment. Much depends on how your studio work. Of course, even if 1 TB appears to be an enormous amount of free space, you will be looking to purchase additional units as your space needs change. Unfortunately, although you have all of your work a "mouse click, you still need to address Backup archives since you literally "all your eggs in one disc. "

Big players are great, but relying over too dangerous. camera negatives never decayed spontaneously (as nitrates!), but the disk drives can and will fail without much warning and archiving word never appears in the same sentence with hard disk. You may want to consider a little more expensive RAID (disk array), where several discs identical are configured automatically "mirror" each other automatically. Add one and you really save both. There are many options here and they should not be terribly expensive. RAID configurations provide the most reliable automatic failure of the disc and often give Nice drive "Health Check" warnings.

No matter how good your systems you, the experts consider most hardware multiple hard drives, even in a RAID configuration, only as a solution to protect against hardware failure dynamics "in the process," because the working files can hardly be archived because they are too dynamic.

However, after the work is provided to a customer, the probability file access or modification drops precipitously. These jobs can be "archived" and protected against a hard drive crash or even against accidental deletion.

Archives Work completed on a CD or DVD recordable

The most profitable and by far the safest method of archiving Today is writable CD (700 MB) or DVD (4.7 GB). To be sure, you hear many horror stories about disks that do not read or "fade" in a few months. Chances are these failures were not correctly written to start or have been written for a very low cost, unstable media. As the photo paper, it is good blank optical and not very good blank media. Use only paper that incorporates a gold medal (which is real 24 karat gold) reflective, since the failure of the most common environmental for optical discs, in addition to physical damage, is the humidity and heat to attack the reflective layer disc and be totally useless. Even if it takes a shortly when burning discs, only use a recording software that supports "verify after writing." This function will automatically read all the data after the recording and see if the disc actually contains all the data you've written and everything it is readable! Digital technology allows identical copies, so make 2 copies of each disc, and a store at another location ... in the case of a disaster! Chances are you will not use a disk archive for a while and if they are stored reasonably (Dark, clean, cold, dry), they can easily take longer than you need to. In this model, your computer automatically (and continually) copies of all your important files to large Secure and redundant storage facilities on the Internet. This model might eliminate not only the hard disk of your backup DVD, but good.

Thousands of consumers and businesses today rely on cloud backup services, vendors such as Mozy, Carbonite, and SugarSync, automatically preserve all their important personal files, pictures and music. The great centers of trade data are also adopting model. The appeal is simple. Lost or stolen machine ... no problem. hard disk crash ... no problem! Simply connect to your service, download a new sync application works! The system automatically retrieves all your files, restoring everything back to its condition when failure. Today, most of these services are used for backing up files that are on your internal drive, but the technology can do much more.
