Back in the early 1970s, old school DJs began using several breaks (part of a funk or jazz song or music "breaks" rhythm section and plays) that has created something funny dace of. DJs mix it up with trays; switching pause to break, creating a loop being known as a breakbeat.
Kurtis Blow was one of the first artists to use a digital sampler to make a record. Samplers sequencers and really let the samples and drum beats mixed creatively stretch the audio capabilities of vinyl only ... what my friends gave birth to real hip hop production.
The Roland TR-808 aka the 808 was introduced in 1980, one of the first forms of production technology before the music ..... He paved the way. The E-MU SP-12 is then released in 1985 that allowed 2.5 seconds of recording time. In the hip hop at the beginning of the recording time on these devices were used primarily for sampling drum loops. Followed by SP-1200, the Akai MPC60 was released in 1988, capable of 12 seconds of sampling time ... MBM first to arrive on the market.
Public Enemy's Bomb Squad has revolutionized the design and structure of beats, hip-hop song by combining several samples and layering breaks with a drum machine. Thank you the group that brought us the classic Fight The Power, hip-hop have been taken to new heights opening creative ideas to beat using samples multiple and go beyond a repetitive loop. This new sound in hip hop modern days has a track to contain a sound sequence for the verse and another sequence for the hook ... a new day for Hip Hop production.
Updated versions of the MPC were released in the mid-90 and continued better every year with other more advanced features and flexibility. PPM combined a drum machine, sample sizes more and a sequencer on board. Sean Combs aka Puff Daddy and his production team has pushed the envelope with a new style where entire sections of documents were sampled to oppose only short excerpts. Another major breakthrough in the production, which gave birth to turn conventional old school hits new school. With the evolution of MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), software programmers are now able to write applications that could record and play the notes played by a musician. Yet another step in the evolution of massive hip-hop production and music technology in general.
Today, technology has gone as far as the need for most heavy and expensive equipment was replaced by computer software. A 20 million program now allowed votes to be recorded, edited, mixed and mastered in beats are able to be made from scratch. Anyone can produce documents today and progress in social media and video sharing sites like YouTube, you can spend your Momma's basement studio to a million beats with the best in the business.
