The following section describes The most common components found inside of an electric guitar.
Microphones
Microphones convert the mechanical energy of a vibrating string into an electrical signal, allowing it to be amplified, processed and reproduced. Microphones vary greatly in construction, size, types materials used, and various electrical properties, but they are generally divided into two categories - single and double coil-coil (Also known as humbuckers).
Potentiometers
Potentiometers (often abbreviated as "pots") may be used to control a variety functions within an electric guitar. In most cases, they function as tone controls and volume, but can also mix two microphones together alleviate a coil humbucker, and so on.
The potentiometers are differentiated by their electrical characteristics, which the following are most important in an electric guitar:
Value - the resistance between the two outer legs. The most common values are 250 K (for single coil pickups) and 300-500 K (humbuckers), although values as high as 1 M were used. 25 pots were used with k active electronics.

Besides the common pots used for volume controls and tone controls, a number of specific types exist:
Push-pull pots - these pots include a DPDT switch on the underside of the pot that is activated by pulling out the plug and shaft (Hence the name). The switch is electrically independent of the pot and can be used for a number of functions.
Push-push pot - a variation of the foregoing, these pots also incorporate a switch that is activated and deactivated by pressing the middle of the dial. It is used by Fender in their system S-1 switching, and contrary to push-pull pots, you need a special button.

Capacitors
Capacitors (often referred to as "caps") have several uses in electric guitars, the most common of which is in control of tonality, where it acts as a high pass filter, short-circuiting high frequencies to ground and origin of the tone control just act as a lowpass filter.
