In any industry there are always some specific things that stand out. This is no different in the synthesizer industry. Some synthesizers that have really left their mark.
ARP Odyssey in 1972. It should be remembered for their alleged stealing of the original design Moog 4-pole. Needless to say, he became a rival Moog. It did not take long for the engineers to design their own ARP 2 pole filter. Once this was Combined with the duophonic then players have the advantage of a synthesizer replacement. Again during the whole concert, he would listen.
One may recall the success of Dave Smith and Associates of Sequential Circuits with the Prophet 5. It was around 1978. These facts were originally in their garage and called the Prophet 10. It was an overheating problem that soon brought them no alternative but to reduce the voice half. He was excellent in how it could be programmed, in addition to the keyboard microprocessor controlled patch authorized for storage. To top it all was the scenery of the beautiful koa forest. Finally, there have been three major revisions. They are no longer produced after 1984.
In 1970, Moog Minimoog was the creation of synthesizer sounds. It was not all that cheap, but the bass booming, screeching melodies combined with hands keyboardists SFX he made a more popular possession. He had a unique foldable cover for a beautiful wooden case. The problem with it was the fact that he has not had a dedicated LFO more than he wanted to stay in touch and he did not have a patch storage.
The Roland Jupiter during the period of 1981 is well remembered. There was a patch of digital storage, sharing and overlay on the keyboard as if this were not enough, it also has an arpeggiator. The sound was to be the most favored feature that Roland has made it extremely enjoyable, thanks to the signal path analog. The programming was a breeze with the button interface load. He had a high price when it came to the oscillators and filters.
Finally, the Yamaha DX-7 must be mentioned. It was the first time that polyphonic, excellent keyboard and a very cheap price is all combined. What is achievable with their DX-7 synthesis frequency modulation has been spectacular. Not something any music star famous want to miss. Programming it was a bit of a mystery, but FM synthesis has never caused quite the same noise ever since. It paved the way for other new types of synthesis.

Arturia Minimoog V $199.95 From the starship funk lead lines of the 70s, to the gangster whine of mid 90s hip-hop, the ever present minimoog has been making its phat presence felt for over 3 decades. In partnership with Bob Moog, we decided to reproduce the legendary interface with the same look and feel than the original because of its particular mood, and because many musicians wish to use the same interface they used in the past. But the reproduction of this synthesizer does not stop to the look and feel, we also recreated its inside characteristics... |

Arturia MiniMoog V MKII Software Synthesizer $199 Arturia Minimoog V MKII brings back the sound and special characteristics of the Moog synthesizer in a virtual instrument. The original Minimoog has particular characteritics for which it is loved by many musicians to this day. Arturia decided to reproduce the legendary synth interface with the same look and feel of the original because of its particular "mood" and because many musicians wish to use the same interface they used in the past. But the reproduction of this synthesizer does not stop at the look and feelArturia also recreates its inside characteristics as well.So what makes the sound of the Minimoog? First, the oscillators. Arturia recreates the exact characteristics of each oscillator, with its particular sound. As with any discrete component analog oscillator, the Minimoog V produces "free-running" waveforms that Arturia has captured in the sound.Secondly, the filter. Many digital filters have some characteristics which are very far from their analog references. The Minimoog V filter has the same characteristics as the original Minimoog one, i.e. its frequency and emphasis are completely independent. The Minimoog V filter is an true emulation of the renowned typical 24dB moog 4 stages filter. Another feature of the Minimoog filter is the emphasis decreases when the cutoff frequency is low. This allows a special characteristic of sound that lets the bass pass throught the filter when playing lower sounds. The soft clipping behaviour of the Minimoog amplification stages is also very important in the sound character, adding some pleasant harmonics to the sound, making basses sound more powerful. |
