Do you understand what ethical behavior means? According to Michael Josephson, there are four principles of ethical conduct: honesty, integrity, fairness, and concern for others. You can think of these four basic principles that the legs of a stool imagination. A leg create a wobbly stool, but is missing both legs of the stool collapsed. If you are not fair or care, your pride in being honest and have integrity means nothing.
Ethical behavior in business
In the end, the ethical behavior of business had a number a concern. Reviewing the events of last year, it seems that the words "business" and "ethical" are contradictory terms. Whether you're looking to Wall Street, mortgage companies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, or private companies, as AIG, not to mention all the mortgage companies in the study of questionable business practices, the news is depressing. It seems that the 1980 mantra "greed is good" never really went away.
The criminal acts of top entrepreneurs have been discovered, which should motivate others to behave more ethically. In truth, however, it often acts as an excuse for not change the behavior of the poor. What harm can there be a PC using your company for personal business manager uses when your phone Company for personal long distance calls? When employees see how behaves business management, they begin to feel not a shame for the little they may have committed indiscretions.
Managers may be inadvertently signaling that the behavior unethical will be tolerated when they put pressure on a smaller, staff reduced to produce more. When employees feel required to meet business objectives by all means possible, ethical behavior may go by the wayside.
They receive the message, "It's OK to be dishonest, as long as you meet your goals." As the economy takes us a roller coaster ride, we must evaluate our thinking to ensure that we do not allow ourselves to fall into unethical behavior all because it seems that we can easily get away with it. There is always room for improvement in your business communications.
These five guidelines to help you communicate ethically (Source: "Business Communication Process and Product," Mary Ellen Guffy, 2000):
(1) Be honest. Statements that are false or misleading should never be done. It is also unethical to tell partial truths or exaggerate.
(2) Be sure to label opinions as opinions. Do not try to convince someone that something you just believe to be true is already a fact. Do the work, research thoroughly and make sure you are not just representative of the opinion another person as your own.
(3) Do not biased. Understand that your own subjective belief may come through in your writing. Even if you are passionate about your opinions, ethics call for you to be confident in your presentation.
(4) Your papers should be easy to understand. You need your thoughts clearly, so they are easy to understand. Make sure what you write can be easily understood by the reader. Do not confuse the issue by using phrases and all kinds of convoluted jargon of the industry difficult to understand.
(5) Credit your sources. Do not copy anyone's work. Most people have the basic knowledge they need to use quotes if they use a quote Direct from another writer. Yet there are a number of people who do not understand they need to properly credit others ideas. You're still cheating and paraphrasing sentences if you throw in a handful of new words without crediting the author.
Abstract
No You need only connect ethics to succeed in the long run, but it is also morally correct. Make sure you behave the way you would want others to imitate. If you do your business ethically and successfully, others will follow your example.
