When using digital technology, there are 2 main ways to produce music: it is to record real instruments and convert them into audio digital, and two, using MIDI-based or virtual instruments that simulate the sound of instruments. Virtual instruments are made using or the synthesis of sounds or making samples of real instruments. This article talks about sampling, sampling techniques behind, and uses sampling to create musical compositions.
What is sampling?
Sampling is the process of recording a sound source in a HDD recorder. The objective of sampling is to produce a digital audio file that can be recalled using various programs or software compatible. After the sound source was recorded and converted into a digital audio file, the sample can then be edited using the software and / or be used as a sound in a musical composition.
The most common use for the sampling of digital music is a drum sampler. Perhaps you've heard of various software such as drum Addictive Drums, BFD, EZDrummer etc. This software contains drum samples that are stored and edited using very complicated and engineering processes. The drums are often high quality drums played by players professionals in an acoustically treated to ensure the best sound quality is obtained at the final recording. The drums can also be recorded at different speeds (or volumes, as soft, medium, and high) and then layered in a program sensitive to velocity so that when the sample is played using a MIDI trigger it will respond with more or less depending on the postage value of the speed of MIDI data it receives. The drum samples in this software is often combined with friendly and attractive graphical user interface (GUI), often with a photograph of a drum kit that you can point and click to get the sound of a kick, snare, and other members of the drum kit.
Another example of a instrument that is commonly sampled is the acoustic piano. In my opinion, both drums and acoustic piano samples that technology can produce a sound today are very good and viable enough to be used to replace less than desired sound sources in records professionals. There are even some freeware VST (Virtual Studio Technology, virtual instrument format) that provide samples of drums, pianos and other instruments free download. The quality of sampling is of course straight for the price of the product in question (the best sounding samples are often more expensive - they are for a reason).
How do I use sampling?
Knowing that the production computer-based music using real instruments can be replaced with the use of virtual instruments, sampling plays an important role for the budding music producer and even professional. Any string ensembles or some grand pianos as Bosendorfer that were previously inaccessible to the aspiring musician can now obtain a significantly reduced budget. These musicians can use samples recorded part world's most sought after in their own compositions instruments in the comfort of their home studios. You can obtain samples of the famous Fender Precision Bass '58 in your throat for the last disco club, or to invoke the Vienna orchestra to play this magnum opus you've spent the last 3 years.
Vice versa, you can also create your own samples if you have the equipment. Most hip-hop artists do this, since sampling is an essential element of his Hip-Hop. You need a sampler like the Akai S1000 ubiquitous (which is a period instrument in its own right), find the sound source that inspires you spice it up with different creative effects and you can get a sound very cool and rare to use in your tracks. The possibilities are limited only by the skill you have as a musician.
I hope this article can help you produce more value through the music you create.
For your musical aspirations,
