The HTC Wildfire

Monday, December 6th, 2010

The HTC Wildfire was released to the mobile market in May 2010. The HTC smartphone is a simple combination of superb social network integration and a reasonable price tag. It is not surprising that HTC has decided to create a smartphone that focuses on social networking. After all, we all know how huge a part it plays in our lives.

Impressive smartphones don’t always come with high-end processors; just take a second to consider the iPhone 3GS’s processor (412mhz). The HTC Wildfire might well be one of those smartphones. Although the phone comes with an average 528 mhz processor, it doesn’t cause much frustrations from performance issues. The upside of the smartphone might just be the Android v2.1 OS that is coupled with the HTC Sense UI to deliver an enriching mobile experience.

As for the display, HTC Wildfire has a 3.2-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. The disappointing aspect of the touchscreen is the low 240 x 320 pixels resolution. Although the screen is relatively small as compared to other popular smartphones, it does not affect the cell phone’s core ability to keep its user active on social networks. At a glance, the cell phone looks like a smaller combination of the Nexus One and the HTC desire. If you do not happen to be a fan of the default HTC colors, you have the option of getting this phone in Pure White or Flamenco Red.

The HTC Wildfire comes with a 5 megapixel camera for spontaneous photo capturing. The camera includes several features such as smile detection, autofocus and LED flash. A few initial image samples show great image quality although there is room for improvement with the videos.

Are you a mobile social networking person? Can you live and breathe without constantly knowing “what’s going on”? If you are a social networking fanatic, you will absolutely love the HTC’s Friend Stream that provides social integration to the Wildfire. Aside from being able to view all your social updates in one page, you can integrate your FB friends and Twitter followers with your address book. The next time you receive a call, pay close attention to the display - It will provide social content such as birthdays, profile pictures and latest status updates.

Social networking aside, the HTC Wildfire has an interesting feature that allows you to share your favorite Android applications with your friends. Your sharing options include emails, messages and of course, social networks. All it takes is one click for your friends to download your shared application. Sounds cool?

All in all, the HTC Wildfire is ultimately a mobile social networking powerhouse. Although the cell phone does not come with state-of-the-art capabilities, it has all the necessary smartphone features such as a great camera, 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS. For such an affordable price, the HTC Wildfire gives you great bang for your buck!
